Missed opportunities

The elderly dog parks herself on the good green grass. She faces the street, but is not on watch duty. Instead she enjoys the early morning cool dampness.

Across the street, a bunny stays motionless. Frozen and invisible to the dog. An elderly dog’s eyes and ears and nose are not what they used to be. Soon there are two bunnies, but the dog does not notice. Instead she decides it’s time to come in for breakfast. Slowly, slowly she stands up in the good green grass. She turns toward the house. The bunnies remain, silent and still, invisible.

Once again, it will be dog food for breakfast.
